How do I find the MAC Address on an iPhone or iPad?
An iPhone and an iPad keep the address in the same two screens, and the only difference between them is which operating system version introduced the private address: iOS 14 on an iPhone, iPadOS 14 on an iPad. Both screens matter, because the address About shows is not the one a network usually sees.
The address burned into the Wi-Fi chip
- Tap Settings .
- Select General .
- Select About .
- Read the Wi-Fi Address field.
That value is the hardware Wi-Fi address and it is the same on every network the device joins.
The address a network actually sees
- Open Settings > Wi-Fi .
- Tap the More Info button next to the network name.
- Find Private Wi-Fi Address , which names the address in use for that network and the mode that decides it.
On iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 the mode has three values: Off presents the hardware address, Fixed presents a private address that stays the same on that network, and Rotating changes it about every two weeks. Earlier releases offer only on or off. The mode is per network, so one network can have the hardware address while the next one has a private address.
A private address is locally administered, so a MAC address lookup returns no manufacturer for it. That is the correct answer rather than a failed lookup, and the Apple private Wi-Fi address page sets out what each mode does.
