How do I find the MAC Address on an Android device?
An Android phone and an Android tablet keep the address in the same place, and only the name of one menu entry differs: the screen is called About phone on a phone and About tablet on a tablet. What the address means is worth checking twice, because the one the screen shows is not necessarily the one the network sees.
The address burned into the Wi-Fi chip
- Open Settings .
- Tap About phone , or About tablet .
- Scroll down to Wi-Fi MAC address .
The manufacturer decides where that entry sits: some group it under Status or Hardware Info inside the same screen. The value is the hardware Wi-Fi address, the one the chip was made with, and it is the same on every network the device joins.
The address a network actually sees
- Turn Wi-Fi on, then open Settings > Network & internet > Internet .
- Tap the settings icon next to the network you are connected to.
- Scroll down to Randomized MAC address .
From Android 10 the address a network sees is usually this one rather than the hardware address: Android generates an address per network and keeps using it for that network. On the same screen the Privacy entry switches between the randomized address and the hardware one, so a network that registers devices by address can be given the value it expects.
A randomized address is locally administered, so a MAC address lookup returns no manufacturer for it. That is the correct answer rather than a failed lookup: no IEEE registration covers an address the device made up.
