Locally administered addresses (LAA): A locally administered address was assigned locally rather than by the IEEE: the second-least-significant bit of its first octet is 1, which makes the second hexadecimal digit a 2, 6, A or E. MAC randomization and manually assigned addresses both produce this form.

It can also be a randomized MAC address. iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 and later, and Android 10 and later, generate a random address for each Wi-Fi network instead of presenting the hardware address, and Windows 10 and 11 do the same once random hardware addresses are enabled. The random address is used only on that network, which makes it harder to link the same device across networks. It has the locally administered bit set, so no organization is registered for it and a lookup cannot name a registrant.
